Visit to NLCC by a team of software testers from Ttitian Software

On January 22-23, 2025, the National Library of Chemical Compounds (NLCC) was visited by another team from Titian Software. This was the third workshop of this type organized by NLCC and Titian. This time, NLCC was visited by specialists responsible for testing Titian’s flagship Mosaic software used in NLCC to manage the library of chemical compounds. The aim of the meetings is to exchange knowledge and experience. Titian employees have the opportunity to learn about the IT infrastructure and work environment of NLCC, in which Mosaic software is used, and thanks to this, to direct their work and notice issues that require special attention. For NLCC employees, this is an opportunity to draw on the experience of people who directly create their work tool, which is Mosaic software.

Due to the composition of the team and its experience, the visit focused on testing the software in terms of NLCC requirements and verifying its functionality during the processes of accommodation of chemical compounds in the Library, managing them and making them available for screening and other biological tests by the users. Simulations of software user errors that could potentially occur were also carried out and methods for their self-repair were developed. The need to update the Mosaic system to a newer version was considered and the backup system was discussed.

Regular meetings between NLCC and Titian allow for more efficient use of the Mosaic software, which has a number of functionalities that are adapted in NLCC processes depending on the needs that arise with the growth of the collection of compounds. Contact with Ttitian experts is an opportunity for NLCC to learn about best practices in software use and to adapt its functions to the specific needs of the academic library of chemical compounds that NLCC constitutes. The workshops are also a platform for submitting suggestions for improvements that Titian can include in subsequent versions of the software, as well as methods for integrating the software with automated devices of the sample bank infrastructure such as NLCC. The possibility of direct contact with other departments of the company, apart from the support team, allows for a look at the processes carried out using the Mosaic software and the NLCC database managed with it from different points of view.
